Tent Grown Cannabis?

Indoor growing has been employed by a lot of growers to address different cannabis planting issues. That being said, this method has been an answer to multiple problems with growing cannabis plants, such as risks to security, safety, and control of the environment. While outdoor growing is cheap to establish, there are a lot of growers who have been continuously shifting to indoor growing as to avoid all the named risks.

With that, there are a lot of known methods that you can employ when growing indoors. One of these methods includes tent cultivation for which we are going to discuss in this article.

What are Grow Tents?

In the literal sense, a grow tent is basically a tent that is used as a growing environment for your plants. Unlike greenhouses, these tents are small yet still very efficient for growing a few plants. Though it can be a bit complicated when managing and installing these tents, it has been proven to be still one of the easiest ways to grow cannabis plants.

Why Use Grow Tents?

If you are only looking for personal cannabis cultivation, then a grow tent would be a great cultivation space for you. Aside from the convenience, you can also rest assured that it will stay secure, and be kept away from nosy neighbors. Just like any indoor growing activity, you’ll always want to be in control of the specific conditions such as temperature, humidity, and light.

Thus, tents are a great way to grow cannabis plants. However, it is important to remember that this method is not recommended for large-scale cultivation.

The following are some advantages and disadvantages of using grow tents to give you a better grasp of the subject.

Advantages:

  • Cost Efficient

You can use accessible materials from your house to build your tent. However, if you don’t have enough time to build your tent, there are grow tents available that you can buy. On average, prices could range from $70-$150.

  • Easy Installation

If you have all the necessary materials, setup of this device takes little time and effort. Though this process depends entirely on how complicated the setup is, most often you can assemble everything in three to four hours.

  • Discreet Growing

Since you’ll be growing indoors, there are few chances for you to be exposed to any external lawful risks. Thus, the only thing that you should take care of is the odor or smell of the cannabis plants. Regardless, you could install carbon filters to address this problem.

  • Ease of Division

When you want to separate plants that are in both vegetative and flowering phases, then grow tents are an excellent medium that you could use to do this. Just simply put a border for separation of these plants.

Disadvantages of Grow Tents

  • Limited Space

Space has been a major issue that most growers have experienced with tents. Nevertheless, it is important to realize that these tents are suited for personal cultivation only.

  • Plant only a Few Plants

With a small space you can only cultivate a small number of plants. Thus, it is important to keep your plants evenly spaced out to avoid causing stress and damage to your plants.

Things to Consider When Growing Cannabis in Tents

  • Lighting System

Find the ideal lighting system for your tents. It is recommended that you use either CFL or LED lights to light your cannabis plants. Depending on the wattage, a typical 600-watt lamp should be kept at a 50-60 cm distance from the cannabis plants. Nevertheless, you could use a lux meter to measure the amount of light before installation to distance out the plants for well-distributed light.

  • Humidity and Temperature

For best operation, it is important to maintain a temperature range between 20 to 28 degrees Celsius when growing your cannabis plants. Thus, you could use fans or cooling systems to manipulate the temperature. As for humidity, it is essential to maintain conditions of 40 to 60 percent humidity.

  • Nutrient Solution and Watering

Spraying your plants with water and nutrient solution is recommended by a lot of cannabis growers especially if your plants are still in their pre-maturing stage. Make sure to prevent your soil from being too moist. Because these are enclosed spaces, there are instances where plants inside the tent get infested by pests and molds. Thus, it is really not necessary to water your plants every day. Shifting from watering and applying nutrient solution is advised by a lot of growers.

  • Soil and Growing Medium

Mostly, growers use soil for cannabis cultivation. Thus, it is important that your soil is nutrient rich and balanced by measuring the pH. Basically, the soil should be slightly acidic to make sure its viable. Some growers use coco coir or water with a nutrient solution to cultivate their cannabis plants. For instructions on hydroponics setup, you can easily research it on the internet for more details.

  • The Capacity

Use a size that suits your needs. It is important to properly plan how many plants you’ll have before building or buying a grow tent. The size of your grow tent will vary depending on the number of plants you’ll be cultivating.

  • Genetics of the Plant

Basically, there are strains of cannabis plants that grow really tall and there are those that grow really short. Some growers recommend Indica and Ruderalis strains for tent cultivation because of the typical smaller sizes. That is why genetics are important to look into before establishing and designing a grow tent.

Aside from that, genetics also play a significant role in the amount of light that you should expose cannabis plants to and the length of time as well. There are strains who require a large amount of light to grow and consequently, there are those who do not require much. Thus, careful research and planning should be done for cannabis cultivation in tents.
