How Autoflowering Seeds Are Made?

Autoflowering seeds are a blessing as it is a curse for growers. It’s a gift because you can actually get more profits from using autoflowering seeds because these are designed to grow and bloom in just 8 weeks. You will have a good harvest no matter what time of the year it is! On the other hand, this is a curse because these plants don’t grow from clones. These grow from seeds which are very expensive to purchase. Definitely not very efficient when you are still a new grower.

Growing Your Own Autoflowering Seeds

Over the years, growers have made many efforts to perfect the autoflowering cannabis seed and at the moment, this seed can now  grow in just three weeks and be ready for harvest in 8 weeks. With all these great advantages, the price of auto seeds has become steeper. This has left conventional growers to simply do the daunting task of growing their own seeds.

It is a daunting task but is very worthwhile. Consider that a single successfully-pollinated female cannabis plant can develop up to a hundred seeds, even more. And what if you have five or ten female plants ready to pollinate? You might even end up selling seeds aside from growing cannabis which is another profitable avenue.

So how do you actually grow your own autoflowering seeds? Growing cannabis seeds is just the same as growing seeds of other plants except that you will be growing seeds from a genetically modified plant which has been designed to grow and bloom faster than other kinds. Here are some basic steps on how creating autoflowering seeds are done.

  • Purchase regular auto seeds, do not purchase feminized seeds

First things first, you need to locate a reputable seeds shop to purchase regular autoflowering seeds from. many online distributors and sellers conduct their business online so make sure to do business with a reputable auto seeds distributor. Read reviews to find these out. Purchase a large number of seeds to increase your chance of getting the best female and male plants. Consider that a large sample of seeds have at least 50% male and 50% female. Remember to purchase regular auto seeds and not feminized seeds because feminized seeds are definitely all-female.

  • Time to grow your plants

Grow your plants depending on its strains’ growing preferences. Make sure it gets uninterrupted light, plenty of water and organic plant food. You can expect these seeds to germinate and grow in just three weeks. Place these plants in a safe and quiet part of your grow room and you will soon be able to identify the gender of your plants in just five weeks depending on the strain. Definitely the best way to grow auto plants is indoors so  you can efficiently monitor their growth and development and protect them from the elements.

  • Time to identify the gender of your plants

Sexing your plants is just similar to discovering the gender of regular plants. In cannabis plants you are looking for preflowers. These will be easily identifiable by the time these are 5 weeks old. Take note that male preflowers are very visible and are located at the junctions of the branches and stems. The pollen sacs of male plants look like little balls. On the other hand, female preflowers are also found at the junction of the branches and stems and will form at the fourth or fifth branches up from the base. Female preflowers have pairs of tiny white hairs or pistils looking like a delicate white flower. Outdoors, preflowers form towards the end of summer when the hours of daylight decrease. These distinct changes in lighting conditions will trigger plants to produce preflowers.

Aside looking at preflowers, you can also detect the gender of your plants by their general appearance. Generally, male plants are leggier compared to their female counterparts. Females tend to have longer intermodal length, are shorter with more leaves and may look like small bushes. Males tend to grow taller or higher.

  • Choose the best male and the best female or females

After identifying which ones are males and which are females it’s time to choose the best among the best and start pollinating them. Naturally your best plants must be sturdy, with brightly colored stems and leaves, with many preflowers. Take these to a separate sterile room so they can begin pollinating. You can take one male plant and one female plant or you can have a single male and a small group of females.

  • Destroy all worthless males

Rejected male plants need to be destroyed otherwise these can pollinate other female plants. Remember, you are trying to build a strong and dependable crop here.  Destroying these males will prevent spreading stains of imperfect plants in the future.

  • Time to pollinate your plants (naturally or by hand)

Pollination could be done naturally simply leaving the job to nature.  This can be accomplished outdoors with the help of natural wind that moves male seeds to combine by female pistils. But if you prefer to grow cannabis plants indoors, you can pollinate plants manually by carefully taking bits of the pollen to the pistil. A ventilation system can help you move air that carries pollen to female plants to pollinate them.  You can use an electric fan or a small blower to just facilitate pollination.

  • Observe best practice

Now that your plants are pollinating, you must take care in handling them. Observe best practice by washing your hands before and after you go inside your growing room. You must wear gloves and a coat to protect the plants. Have a regular time feeding and watering your plants to make sure that these plants are trimmed and pruned. Only by observing good practice will you be able to create better and healthier strains as well.

By following these  steps on how to make autoflowering cannabis seed and with a little bit of luck you will have hundreds of seeds per female autoflowering plant you own.
