The Life Cycle of Cannabis Seedlings

What is a seedling?

A seedling is a young plant which follows after germination. It is the second phase of the four cycles of Cannabis growing. In this time, the seedlings will start to produce set of small leaflets.  Among the phases of Cannabis plants, a seedling is the most dangerous and the most fragile. They are easy to destroy and that is why they need optimum care from its growers.

Cannabis seedling life cycle

Basically, a seedling is a kind of plant embryo which sits in a seed shell and will eventually start to grow when the protective layer will start to receive moisture. After that, the young plant will try to find sunlight by growing upside down and the plant tries to crack the seed. This scenario always happens to seeds because most of the time they are cultivated under the soil or any material and in order to get light, seeds will find its way upward to receive the supply of sun. At this moment, the seedling is currently storing energy from the sun and it used the stored energy to grow. The energy cannot be processed yet because photosynthesis does not take place in this stage. When the little life of the plant reaches the ground, it will automatically find light and the photosynthetic process will start. Sets of leaves will be produced and the life of the plant started. The first set will start only one leaflet, while the second set will produce three leaflets.

How the growths of the seedlings differ from the later growth of mature plants?

In this stage, your Cannabis seedling has only one focus. That is to get more energy in order to stabilize its strength and to make its roots strong enough to find nutrients in the ground.  That is the very reason why you should be careful not to damage your seedling because its only focus is its survival.  At this point, your seedling will not use any nutrients in the environment because it only uses the energy and natural elements stored in the seeds.

Nurturing Cannabis seedlings

Since in this stage, your little Cannabis will not use additional nutrients from the environment, you don’t need to add any elements in it. However, you should water your little plant regularly but bear in mind that your watering application should not be frequent. Too much water supply in the seedlings will result in too much moisture and this will cause molds and bacteria to visit and damage your little weeds.

When it comes to light schedules, your Cannabis seedling will grow in different schedules, however, the intensity and color of your light will influence as to how fast your seedlings will develop. It would be better to keep your lights for your seedling because they need warm temperature. This is mainly because Cannabis seedling will sprout when they can feel warmer temperature.

Seedlings will also need 24 hours light periods. You should not only give them warmth but a continuous and consistent light because in this way they tend to develop faster.  When it comes to humidity, seedling should receive 60%-80% humidity because they need to retain their moisture. As stated earlier, seedlings will not need any additional elements and nutrient they only need a plain water with a pH level of around 6.5-7.5.

The duration of the Cannabis seedling

The leaf’s finger number is the determinant as to when the vegetative stage starts. Some growers consider that the seedling stage is over when the stems will become thick and will consist 3-4 leaf nodes. Its whole duration will depend whether you are growing indoor or outdoor. For indoor growing, it will take the Cannabis 3-4 weeks being a seedling while up to 6 weeks for growing outdoors.

Transplanting the Cannabis seedlings

Once your little weeds are starting to develop a stable and strong root system, the time of transplanting has come. However, even if the roots of your seedling are strong enough, you should still be careful in transplanting it because seedlings are very fragile and can easily be damaged.

Lighting for the seedling

When giving light for your seedling, you can place the light about 5 cm above the seedlings. This measurement ensures that your seedlings will not experience too much heat. The consistency of light is important but too much heat of the light could able to cause any damage to your seedlings. On the other hand, avoid placing your light a bit far than 5 cm from your seedlings. It will cause the seedlings to stretch out and too much-stretched seedling are easy to be tipped over.

If you are using HID or other forms of growing light that will produce too much heat, make sure to find a good distance between the seedlings and your grow lights. 80 cm above your seedling is the ideal distance for your grow light. You can also conduct a heat test before placing your grow lights to make sure that your seedlings will receive enough warmth.

For a more efficient lighting, you can use LED lights with cooled spectrum.  You can use the 18/6 light schedule or 18 hours for light and 6 hours of darkness.

Nutrients for seedling

The most common mistake by some growers especially for those beginners is they fed their seedlings with additional elements and nutrients. It is essential that you knew the fact that Marijuana seedlings don’t need any nutrients to grow. They need a pH leveled water, moisture, and light. During this period of growth, it is better to let your seedling survive on its own rather than spoiling them with elements in that early stage of their life.

You can start feeding your plants after a week or two but you can only use half of the recommended dosage or otherwise, you will end up killing your seedlings.

Final words

The seedlings are the start of a life of your Marijuana plants. They are their most vulnerable and sensitive stage in which they should be taken carefully. They are very fragile that growers should always “handle them with care”.

The Problem with Cannabis and Pesticide

To fight and prevent severe damage from pests and insects for Cannabis plants, several growers use pesticides. Although it is one of the most effective ways to fight this kind of attacks from pests, it is not suitable to use for many reasons. Does pesticide can really be harmful in Cannabis? In what way that may be possible? Find out in this article in start on raising awareness about the danger of using pesticide.

What is pesticide?

Defining pesticide is plain and simple. It is a kind of substance which is made to control pests in the weeds. Pesticide kills or encourages pests through the use of biological or chemical agent like viruses, antimicrobial, bacterium, and disinfectant. It is widely used among growers as controlling agent, however, using pesticides have many downsides as well because it has high toxicity to animals as well as humans.

Health effects of pesticides

Generally speaking, using pesticide gave a lot of negative effects most especially in the human body. According to the research founder by experts, the pesticide is number 9 out of 12 most dangerous and persistent chemicals. Considering this fact, the use of pesticide should minimize since it has bad effects in the human body.

Environmental risks of using pesticide

Using pesticide to control pests is not only harmful to the human body but it is also alarming to the environment. The pesticide will contaminate the rivers and other bodies of water. Using pesticide will not only kill the environment but it will harm the other living creatures in the surroundings. Since it has toxicity to human being and animals it can eventually kill them. This will cause so many imbalances to the environment as well.

As of today, many experts suggest that instead of using pesticide, why not growers use organic to control and kill pests.  Pesticide manufacturers have given enough regulatory policies to control the manufacturers in producing pesticides.

Cannabis and pesticides

Talking Cannabis and pesticides together can be a big problem. Growers who used to apply pesticides in their Cannabis will also cause and bring damage to its users. Pesticides will not only kill insects and other forms of pests but might as well, pesticides can be smoke by Cannabis growers. This is one of the biggest issues in Cannabis growing today since the majority of Marijuana growers used pesticides on their farm.

For example, certain pot growers used pesticides in his Marijuana plants. When it was tested in the laboratories, the result was quite alarming because a hydrogen cyanide was examined in a pot treated with pesticides. This is a serious problem that should be given answers and immediate solutions or consuming Cannabis may result to harm than good. Many people think that it the mother plant was treated with pesticides, more likely the clones do not have pesticides content at all. This is actually wrong. According to the study, cloned Cannabis plants have likely pesticides content if their mother plant was treated with pesticides.

Literally speaking, using pesticides in Cannabis plants will really cause contamination. However, it is not among the concerns of Cannabis growers since using pesticides is one of the easiest ways to kill, prevent and control insects. The place is also a factor in pesticides consumptions.  Most states do not have regulations controlling the application of pesticides to crops. Some of the growers use pesticides which are not even approved to be used for food. But since most places have no regulatory means of controlling pesticides, the “take it or leave it” principle has come. Since Cannabis plants have an increased health benefit, a lot of users enticed to try and use Marijuana and the pesticides content in it can also be consumed.

Consuming Cannabis is consuming pesticides

Different laboratories have studied Cannabis concentrate. According to their latest studies, the detection rate of pesticides in concentrates ranges from 5 to 15 percent while in some concentrates 5 to 15 percent detection rate has been found out. This clearly means that using Cannabis oil which is treated with pesticides in their cultivation process will also let you consume pesticides.  Another thing is the fact that if you will smoke Cannabis which was treated with pesticides, you will also consume pesticides. These scenarios are very alarming because it will cause a lot of damage in the human body in a long process. Even if the pesticides are ingested in the plants in its early stage, in the time of harvest pesticides signs will still show up.

Options for growers

Luckily, there are still options that growers can use in preventing and killing pests without sacrificing the health of the Cannabis consumers. The first option is literally to lie on the grower. If you are a Marijuana grower, you should look for a sustainable and natural option to fight pests and insects attacking in the Cannabis plants. Second is to look for a list of approved pesticides in the market. Another option is to use biofungicide as a way to fight pests. Using organic is also a good way to fight insects and pests. Organic is environmentally friendly and safe to use whatever plants you are growing even Cannabis plants. There are other ways to kill and control pests in Cannabis growing. All you have to do is to be sensitive in choosing each of these choices to become successful and responsible Cannabis growers.

The Secondary Nutrients for Cannabis

In growing Cannabis, nutrients play an important role in its overall development and growth. Nutrients are the food of your Cannabis, just like other plants, without enough nutrients, your weeds will starve and it will result in possible damage.  There are main nutrients for Cannabis growing; these are N-P-K or the nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium. These elements are considered as the basic food in growing weeds. However, the presence of secondary elements in weed growing is also vital. Although they are just secondary, they are important as the basic elements in growing pot.

When we refer to secondary elements of Cannabis, these are the additional nutrients our Cannabis needs in order to grow healthy and produce potent buds. So what are these secondary nutrients? These are the following:

1)    Calcium

Calcium may be underestimated because it is just a secondary nutrient. However, you need to know the fact that calcium is found in plant’s cell membrane, roots, and other parts of the plants. Its uses include the following:

  • Fight against pests and illnesses
  • It helps strengthen the structure of the cell wall
  • Calcium helps the fast absorption of other nutrients
  • will help to move the other nutrients in the whole plant
  • Calcium will help in the transformation of nitrogen into a form in making plant’s enzymes for the whole system usage
  • it will help in turning on and off the other nutrients
  • helps a lot in keeping the permeability of the cell
  • it improves the strengths in leaves and stems
  • Helps in the respiration process making the plant to fight the stress caused by too much heat

The ability of the calcium will merely depend on how you maintain the right PH level of your medium. For hydroponics, your PH should range from 5.4-5.8 and for soil it should be for 6.5-8.0. This means that the above ranges should always be maintained to make sure that calcium will work well in your plants or else it will cause calcium deficiency.

Calcium toxicity

Calcium toxicity is difficult to diagnose. You cannot see its toxicity symptoms just through seeing the discoloration of the leaves. You can identify that your plant is experiencing calcium toxicity if you can see signs of manganese, potassium and magnesium deficiency. Calcium deficiency will lock out the latter nutrients.

Signs of deficiency

It is important that you will know the signs of calcium deficiency in your Marijuana plants. The calcium deficiency signs can be identified if the leaves will start to have yellow spots and the tips of the young leaves will turn yellowish. The yellow tips will then spread among all the leaves both young and old and every edge will start to curl and it will then show signs of deformations. The overall sign of calcium deficiency is stunted growth and weak branches.

2)    Magnesium

This second element also plays an important role in the whole growth of the plants. Magnesium can be found in the leaves, it is very vital in chlorophyll molecule and it helps a lot in the enzyme production. Since magnesium is very vital in the chlorophyll molecule, lack of magnesium will surely result to stunt growth. Magnesium will be fully available in the soil if its pH will be maintained between 6.5-8.0 and 5.8-8.0 in hydroponics.

Magnesium toxicity

The sign of magnesium toxicity is difficult to diagnose. The only way to know if there is magnesium toxicity is a calcium lockout.

Magnesium deficiency

The toxicity and deficiency in magnesium are quite different stories. While magnesium toxicity is rare and difficult to diagnose, magnesium deficiency is easy to detect and to be treated. If you will see signs like the tips of the older and Middle-aged leaves will turn to yellow and the space interval will be dark, then it is a clear sign that your Cannabis plants have magnesium deficiency. If it will not be treated right away, the problem will automatically jump off to the new and young leaves and it will then get necrotic spots which will lead to death. Another sign is if the stem and leaves of your Cannabis plants will turn purple. Lastly, when your leaves will start to turn yellowish and the veins will turn into dark and if there will be necrotic spot, you should start to find a solution to solve this problem.

3)    Sulphur

Although sulfur is the last secondary nutrients, it doesn’t mean that it is not important in the growing process of your Cannabis plants. Sulfur will be distributed in the whole part of your plants. Its functions are the following:

  • Sulfur is a major component of protein
  • it helps in the increase of root growth.
  • Helps in the distribution of the chlorophyll
  • has a big role in the production of root nodule legume
  • helps increase the overall growth
  • helps a lot in the transformation of the proteins
  • has an important part of the amino acids
  • Helps in the transpiration of the plants
  • Helps in the metabolism process

All of the stated functions are commonly executed in the flowering stage; however, it doesn’t mean that sulfur has no use in other stages of Marijuana life cycle. Sulfur is a kind of element which moves slowly and it is being distributed in the whole plants. For better absorption of sulfur, your soil should be in a right pH which ranges from 6.0-8.0.

Sulphur toxicity

Its toxicity is rare and among its signs is slow growth and leaf deformation.

Sulphur deficiency

On the other hand, sulfur deficiency is easy to diagnose and identify. Most of the time, lack of sulfur will show signs of yellowing of leaves and curled leaf in the tips. All in all, sulfur deficiency will result in weak growth and purple or reddish stems.

Fixing the toxicity of the secondary nutrients

Since toxicity of these three elements is very rare to happen, you cannot fix its toxicity with just getting one element. The best thing to do is to flush off a pH adjusted level of water in plants if there are signs of toxicity.

Fixing the secondary nutrient deficiency

Basically, the application of Ph leveled water and the application of the deprived elements are the ways to treat the secondary nutrients deficiency.

How to Minimize Electricity Consumption for your Cannabis Garden

Minimizing the electricity consumption is one of the major concerns of a cannabis grower most especially those who are growing indoors. They might feel like there are no other ways for them to save more electricity when growing indoors, but what they didn’t know is that there are lots of ways and means on how they can possibly cut their electricity bill!

Yes, you can really save lots of your money when paying for your electricity bill. And what’s good about this possibility is that your cannabis plants will never experience any struggle or stress! In other words, their overall growth will still be maintained regardless of the adjustments that you will make around its growing environment.

So while you are getting the perks of having a minimized electricity consumption, you will also get the chance to enjoy healthy and bigger buds for your recreation or medication! That being said, let us now move forward and see the tips below on how we can minimize our electricity consumption in our cannabis garden.

  1. Choose the shorter flowering strain.

If you are just about to start growing a cannabis, you better opt for a strain that has a lesser flowering stage so you can at least minimize your electricity consumption in the long run.

You can go and ask for a suggestion to any cannabis expert to get an idea what type of strain should you use for you to get the best lead. But of course, you can still opt for strains that you truly desire to have regardless of its flowering stage since there are other alternatives on how you can save your electricity even if you are using a strain with a longer flowering stage.

On the other hand, if you are really looking for a strain that you can easily harvest while saving your energy consumption as well, then you can try growing an auto-flowering strain because, in just a matter of 3 months, you can already harvest your cannabis and use it for your chosen purpose.

  1. Use an energy-efficient grow lights.

If you are using fluorescent grow light, you need to change it now and switch to a better type of grow lights that are more energy-efficient to use.

You don’t need to worry about the yields of your cannabis because you will still get the same higher yields and all that even if you will change your grow light. So ask for some recommendation to a cannabis community for you to know the right grow light to use without compromising the quality of your cannabis growth.

  1. Initially lower the power of your grow light if they are still seedlings.

Seedlings don’t need many powerful lights most especially if they are just two to three inches tall. So keep your light lower to reduce your electricity consumption while your cannabis plants are still young. But when they are already growing, increase the power of your light to provide their lighting needs.

  1. Make certain adjustments to the ventilation and temperature of your grow room.

Simple adjustments such as the proper placement of fans and keeping your exhaust system straight and short in line or appearance will make a big difference to your energy consumption.

If you place your fans to an area where you need them the most, you can lessen the use of many fans as possible since you are targeting the right area. Also, if your cannabis plants are still young, you don’t have to fill your growing room with tons of fans because they don’t need much breeze at this stage. So just use the fan if the growing stage of your cannabis is already requiring you.

With regards to the exhaust system, it is much better if you will keep the ducting straight and short so that the travel of air will be shortened. And when that happens, your exhaust system will become more efficient to use since you can minimize the use of your air conditioning system which is a good news if you really want to minimize your energy consumption.

Another thing, if you really want to save more energy while growing cannabis, you can consider growing at a time where the temperate climate is more consistent so you will not be required to use your air conditioning system, plus you can use the light at the cheapest time to help you in managing your electric bills.

Therefore, it is 100% possible to save your energy consumption while growing a cannabis. Just open your mind, do a little computation and adjustments so you can lessen your headache when paying your electric bills. So try doing these pieces of stuff now and see how it can help in minimizing your electricity consumption per month!

Vapour Pressure Deficit in Marijuana Plants: What you need to Learn

Growing Marijuana is both a sort of adventure and education. Just like other kinds of plants, Marijuana growing will need enough knowledge and idea so that it will turn out into the best kind of cultivation. As growers, there are many things and concepts you have to understand so that you will become an effective grower.

To ensure that your weeds will produce potent buds, you need to make sure that you are giving everything your marijuana plant needs.  Because of the several needs of Cannabis plants, growers sometimes forgot the importance of those so called “little needs”. Many growers fail to realize that all the needs of weeds are essential and it should be equally and properly given to them because all these needs are important in the whole growth of Marijuana plants.

One of the greatest yet overlooked needs of weeds is the humidity. Whether you like it or not, humidity plays a vital role in growing Cannabis plants.  Humidity is a way for you to determine how flexible your plant is when it comes to mildew or how much your plants need in order to drink.

This topic is all about Vapor Pressure Deficit and what its role in Cannabis growing is. It talks about the factors affecting VPD and what are the things every grower should know when it comes to VPD.

What is VPD?

Vapor Pressure Deficit or VPD is the difference between two things, the moisture amount in the air and amount of moisture air can hold when it is saturated. There are two things that have a big part in VPD. These are the temperature and humidity.

These two things have a strong relationship with each other. Temperature talks about the degree of heat in a certain substance, while humidity is the state of being humid or having high level of water vapor in the air. When it comes to Cannabis growing, temperature has an important role to play while humidity has a great effect to the plants.

Humidity matters a lot

Humidity is an important factor in growing weeds. This is because your plants will need a regular water intake. However, you must bear in mind that when there is higher humidity in your grow room your weeds will be using its leaves to absorb the water in the air letting the plant to decrease their water consumption in the roots.  On the other side, if your grow room has low humidity, the leaves of your pot will pull water from the roots.

With right humidity, you could able to help your plants grow healthy and vigorously. Since the water has nutrients to feed on your weeds, it is important to know how much water your plants need depending on the humidity of your room. In that way, you could able to control the nutrient intake of your weeds, and letting the leaves of your pot to grow healthy. With right humidity, you can have a great control of normal growth of your weeds.

Relative Humidity (RH) in your plants

Measuring the relative humidity can be easily done through using an instrument called hygrometers. Relative Humidity talks about the ratio of water vapor’s partial ratio to the equal water vapor pressure at a given temperature.  Relative Humidity has a big effect in the whole growth of plants. For some growers, they prefer to make the humidity of their grow room in range, however for some growers, giving a right RH to their plants means a lot.

RH has a direct effect on the plants. Just like human being, plants will also need transpiration (to release water vapor using their stomata) in order to breath because this is part of their growth. With that, the amount of water used by plants in the process of transpiration will be regulated. This is how relative humidity directly affects the plants.

Temperature

On the other hand, the temperature should always be at the right point to ensure a good health for your Marijuana plants. Your plant’s temperature should not be too cool or too hot or else it will give negative effect to your plants. Having a right temperature for your grow room will help your weeds grow healthy.

Vapor Pressure Deficit in growing weeds

Talking about VPD is knowing what your weeds really feel and how it will react to the overall humidity in its growing environment. Second way to think VPD is thinking the demand of atmosphere for water. Measuring VPD in units is in milibars and kilopascals; this is a combination of temperature and RH in a single value. Always remember that how VPD run is opposite to RH. This basically means that when the RH is high then the VPD is low. When VPD is high, there is higher possibility that the air is sucking the moisture in the plant.

To fully understand the impact of VPD in growing weeds, VPD will give the exact picture of what the plants feel in their environment considering the temperature and the humidity. This gives the growers a chance to give better ways and platforms for environmental control. However, you should be aware the VPD is difficult to determine exactly. Your choice will be to measure the temperature of the air in your growing room.

What is Cannabis Phytochrome

What is phytochrome?

Phytochromes are kind of photoreceptors or pigments that can be found in plants including Cannabis plants. It can be specifically found in the leaves in which it plays a very significant role. The main job of phytochrome is to detect lights in red and blue color. Upon hitting the light on the leaf’s surface, two sensors will work together; the one will detect blue light while the other will detect the red light. The one that can detect the red light is the phytochrome system.
Phytochrome has an essential part in the plants. It controls several aspects of the development of the plant. It takes to control the regulation of photoblasty or seed’s germination and other forms of plants development.

Two types of phytochrome

Pr

When referring Pr in the phytochrome system, it is a light absorption at its peak of about 666nm. The moment when Pr will absorb the red light, it will be converted to Pfr. In this case, the Pfr will represent the absorption of lights which ranges from 705-740 nm.

Pfr

Pfr represents far red. Its job is to determine the light or the wavelength which ranges from 705-740 nm but they are not in the form of Pr. The conversion of Pfr to Pr is the same with the conversion of Pr to Pfr.

Manipulating phytochrome

As growers, you have all the privilege to make the most in your weed growing. Manipulating phytochrome will produce a great result; however, you should understand first its concept and how to do it correctly do avoid discrepancies in your cultivation.

According to the research conducted by the experts, inducing the flowering stage is controllable and manipulable. This basically means that growers could able to control the growth of their Cannabis plants where they can make their pot small and prevent it to be too tall. According to the research, those plants which are exposed to far-red lights will be more focused on the development and growth of their roots.

Manipulation will involve the elimination of the plant’s needs and as a result, it will then stretch to its highest points. The plants will be more focused on developing stems, flowers and having an overall development.

Brief advice

With all the advantages in manipulating the phytochrome of your Cannabis plants, it is still essential that you will understand how phytochrome work or else you will end up harming your weeds. There are times that the phytochrome can send incorrect biological signals at the wrong time. If this kind of error will happen, it will cause stress and trauma to your Cannabis and chances of hermaphroditism are high.

What to Do if Your Cannabis Seeds Fail to Germinate

A cannabis seed has a strong and thick coat which may or may not germinate on the first try. There are also times when a seed will not germinate because its growing requirements were not met. The key is to not lose hope. Don’t throw these precious seeds away. There are a few ways to stimulate germinate these seeds.

Growing your own seeds

Cannabis can grow from seeds or from cuttings or clones. Growing from seeds is common in autoflowering strains since these cannot grow from clones. It is also became common practice to grow your own seeds because of the steep price of seeds online and offline. When you grow your own seeds you will be able to have hundreds, if not thousands of seeds to use for years and years.

How to help seeds germinate?

Here are some ways to help seeds germinate. Take note that as soon as your seeds fail to meet the deadline, despite all your efforts to germinate it through light, the following must be done right away.

  1. Soaking your hard seeds

Take your seeds and place these in water for a few hours. Use a clear glass so you can monitor your seeds easily. The best way to do this is to be very gentle. Sure these seeds have hard outer shells but are still very fragile underneath. Use clean water in room temperature; place this in a clear glass and then gently place a seed inside. Allow it to soak for a while but do not soak it for 24 hours. Soon you will find that your seeds have opened after you have soaked it for a while.

  1. Scuffing your non-germinating seeds

With a file or sandpaper, gently scruff the hard outer shells of your seeds. Scuffing will gently remove the outer shell of the seeds and expose the soft and gentle insides so it could be ready to germinate. The process is quite easy to do. Hold the seed with one hand and the sandpaper could be held or the seed could be rubbed on the paper instead. As soon as you have made a few scratches around the seed hull, take the seed to its germinating pot or pan.

  1. Using the paper towel technique

This is taking a seed, wrapping it in two layers of paper towels and then soaking it with water. Simply place the seed inside the paper and fold it carefully. Take clean water and allow it to drip on the paper. The paper should be completely soaked; place this in a heating pan and heat this for 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The head of the seed will soon open this means that the seed is now ready to be planted.

After successfully germinating your seeds

Now that your seeds have successfully germinated you can now plant it in its designated pot. Place the seed in a pot with the right kind of soil for cannabis seeds. You must also dampen the soil first by wetting it with water; allow water to run through the hole at the side of the pot and then let the soil dry or become damp. When the soil is damp, you can now plant your germinated seed in. Cover it with damp soil and then water it again. Place the pot under your grow light or under the sun if you are growing your seeds outdoors.

In case your seeds do not germinate, check the seed embryo. You might be dealing with seeds with dead embryonic cells. It this is so then no matter what you do, the seed will not germinate. For any breeder or grower that has spent money on seeds, having a dead seed could be devastating. The best way to avoid this is to rely only on companies that supply guaranteed germinating seeds. You may also grow your own seeds so that a dud won’t be a worry at all. Remember that a single bud can create hundreds of seeds. Think of how many seeds you can make with dozens of plants! You can even sell seeds a new income source aside from growing weed.

Metal Halide Grow Lights for Cannabis Growing

Light has been a big part of growing Cannabis. Both indoor and outdoor growing needs a consistent supply of lights to support its photosynthetic process. For outdoor growing, lighting is not an issue since there is a consistent amount of light from the sun. For indoor growing, you need to use light bulbs to give enough amount of light.

Electricity lights for your Marijuana plants come from various brands, sizes, types, features, and efficiency. As growers, it will be your responsibility to choose the best lights for your weeds. Upon choosing a light, there are also many factors that you need to consider. One of these factors is the lumens and kelvins of light or its brightness and warmth. Since Marijuana plants need both brightness and warmth to grow, you should make sure that your chosen light could able to meet the standard grow light for an optimum effect.

What are MH or Metal Halide lights?

MH or Metal Halides are electrical lamps that produce lights. They are a mixture of vaporized mercury and metal halides. MH light is a type of HID or high-intensity discharged lamps. Metal Halides are developed in the year 1960 but still famous and widely used nowadays. It is an electrical light that has quartz in the arc tube which has a big help in the improvement of color rendition. MH lights have luminous effects and as a result, it produces intense bluish white light.

Today, Metal Halides is known and widely used among Marijuana growers. It is a good choice among indoor growers who wanted to provide efficient light for the faster growth of their weeds. With the use of MH lights, your pots will become strong and will develop greener foliage.

Metal Halides for indoor Cannabis

MH lights are known as golden standard among Cannabis growers. It is commonly used by indoor growers for decades because of its efficiency when it comes to consistency of lights. So what makes MH lights a good choice among indoor Cannabis growers?

Since MH lights have the ability to give an abundant range of blue light, it can efficiently support your weed’s growth. With its efficiency, it gives a majority influence for the weeds to develop green leaves and stronger stems. Most often, MH lights are highly recommended to use during the vegetative stage because it is the time where your Marijuana plants are more focused on its overall development. With the use of MH lights, your weeds can fully be developed during the vegetative stage.

Metal Halides lights can also be used for the entire stages of your weeds. However, some growers preferred to switch between light colors to ensure a more optimum harvest of pot crop.

Metal Halides pros and cons

Every grow light has pros and cons. Each of them has advantage and disadvantages making it difficult for growers to choose. For those older growers, choosing the best grow light is a lot easier, but for beginners, choosing the best grow light is a crucial part.

MH lights pros

  • MH lights are still efficient even bigger number of weeds. Unlike other kinds of lights, Metal Halides could able to support the lighting needs or a bigger growing space.
  • MH lights have penetrating abilities. This means that using MH lights is still effective if your weeds are not near in it. There are growing lights which are less penetrating to plants; as a result, you need to place your pot in a closer to your grow light.
  • MH lights are more efficient. A lot of growers recommended Metal Halides for an optimum light supply. They are known to be one of the most efficient grow lights that can be used for your Marijuana weeds.
  • MH lights produce great results. Metal Halides are already known for its great performance. It already showed quality results for many years already.
  • MH lights are practical option because it produces both convenience and efficiency at a time.
  • MH lights are easy to use and to set up. They are not just efficient but also user friendly especially for those beginners.

Metal Halides cons

  • MH lights have higher costs. Since they have greater performance among other grow lights, Metal Halides lights will require higher expense from you.
  • MH lights tend to produce more heat. When you decide to choose MH lights over other grow lights, make sure that you have good set up of exhaust to make sure that your Marijuana plants have enough ventilation for proper breathing.

What are the different parts of MH lights you need to provide?

You may wonder why there are other different parts you need to provide. Why Flush Autoflowering Cannabis and When to Do it?

Flushing your auto-flowering or regular cannabis plants can give you tons of benefits. This may sound a little bit unfamiliar to those who are just starting to grow their own cannabis plants, but this simple task can create a big impact on the overall growth and experience of the user.

Yes, flushing can affect your total smoking experience. So if you want to smoke your autoflowering cannabis smoothly while getting the real taste of cannabis, then you should now practice the act of flushing before your harvest time.

But before anything else, let us first define the answers to these questions:

  1. What is flushing?
  2. Why should the cannabis growers need to do the flushing in their auto-flowering and regular cannabis plants?
  3. When is the perfect time to do the flushing?

What is Flushing?

Flushing is just the same with detoxification. You have to detox your cannabis plants to remove all the excessive nutrients and other minerals that are found in your plant.

When flushing your autoflowering cannabis, you need to ensure that you will use a plain water with right pH level to avoid your plant from absorbing any salt or aluminum from your water.

That means, your water should not contain any nutrients or supplements because the purpose of flushing is to remove every bit of the nutrients that are present in your autoflowering plants. So if you will just use water with nutrients, then your flushing will become useless.

Why Flush Your Cannabis Plants?

Every cannabis grower needs to undergo with the flushing of autos or not simply because we do not want to smoke a cannabis that tastes like a fertilizer with a combination of bad chemicals.

If you have seen someone or even tried to smoke a weed and you feel like your cough is about to kill you and the taste is truly horrible, it only means that your weed has too many nutrients and the build up of chemicals in your cannabis plants were not properly flush.

So even if you have grown your auto-flowering with so much care and attention, and regardless of how you carefully cured and dried your buds, you will still end up smoking a bad weed if you will just ignore the process of flushing since the act of flushing will allow your cannabis plants to use their own nutrients to continue the process of growing and maturing right before its harvest time.

That means your cannabis plant will be free from any nutrients by the time that you will harvest them if you will schedule your flushing on the right timing. Yes, you need to know the right time before you flush your cannabis plants because if you flush them too early, flushing will only cause your plant to become unhealthy with lesser yields.

So always know the ideal time when to flush your cannabis to avoid quality and growing issues.

When to Flush Your Cannabis Plants?

Flushing should be done two weeks before your harvest time. But for autoflowering cannabis plants, it is best suggested to flush your autos 5 to 10 days or 2 weeks before your harvest period.

And if you are using amended soil, you don’t need to flush your cannabis, but if you are growing in soil, you need to flush it 1 to 2 weeks before its harvest time. For other types of growing medium, you need to flush your cannabis in less then a week if you are a coco grower, and for hydro growers, two to three days before your harvest is the ideal time for you to flush your cannabis.

But before you flush it, make sure that you will check the color of your trichomes first to know if your cannabis is ready to undergo the flushing. So if the trichomes are already clear with a milky and cloudy color, this is a good sign that you can now start to flush your cannabis using a plain water without any supplements or nutrients on it.

Again, make sure that the pH level of your water is not too high or too low to avoid further issues that might occur in the process.

So after flushing your cannabis plants, you can now harvest your crop with much confidence and smoke it smoothly! All in all, flushing should not be ignored for it will give you impressive results once you are using it. To that extent, you should now begin to flush your cannabis before your harvest time arrived for you to get the best experience while smoking your cannabis!

Common Growing Autoflowering Marijuana Problems

Growing an autoflowering marijuana can be a good choice for some growers. Some of them want to grow an autoflowering because they have a growing issue due to their changing weather or climate and most of these auto growers are always looking forward to growing a marijuana plant in just a matter of 60 to 70 days starting from the germination period up to the harvest time.

In other words, many are opting for the autos because the autoflowering marijuana plants can grow much faster when compared to other types of marijuana strains. However, many cannabis growers are not really a fan of autoflowering marijuana plants because some of them believe that this strain will not help you from fulfilling your desires.

Indeed, there are different opinions when it comes to growing autoflowering marijuana plants. So if you have a plan to grow an autoflowering just because you hate the waiting game, then you have to read this now because we will discuss some of the growing problems that you will encounter if you will grow an autoflowering marijuana. So check out the list below to help you in making your final decision.

  1. Autoflowering marijuana plants need to grow in one pot or container only.

Autoflowering marijuana plants are too sensitive when being transplanted to other container or pots. They are not the same with the other strains where you can start to grow them in cups or regular pots then transplant them after some time to optimize their full growth.

So since they are prone to get some disease and other growing issues once transplanted, most of the growers would rather grow them in one container or pot just to avoid stressing the autos.

  1. The size of the autoflowering marijuana plants is smaller when compared to other strains.

Some may love to grow smaller versions of marijuana but for most of the cannabis growers, they hate to see small marijuana since it only means that they also have smaller yields.

Although there are different smart ways on how you can enhance the yields of an autoflowering marijuana, you will still end up getting unimpressive yields because that’s their true nature.

So if you have bigger growing room or outdoor space for marijuana or you hate to see small marijuana plants, then autoflowering marijuana is totally not for you.

  1. Autoflowering marijuana plants have lower THC content.

For those who are aiming to grow a marijuana plant simply because they want higher THC content, the autoflowering marijuana will just disappoint you because they don’t produce the same THC content with the rest of the strains such as the Indica and Sativa.

And one of the reasons why they contained lower THC is because they belong from the Ruderalis genetics which is known for having lower amounts of THC. Additionally, they produce lesser yields and that means that their THC will also be affected by this.

So better look for other strains if you are crazy in love with marijuana strains that can grow with higher THC levels.

  1. Autoflowering marijuana plants will not help you in saving energy cost.

They need more lighting during their flowering stage because this is the only way for them to maximize their full growth. And that means you need to use more electricity to support the needs of your autoflowering.

So if you are not willing to spend more money to pay your electricity bills, then better look for other strains that would only require you to use regular lighting requirements.

Generally speaking, if you are a detailed cannabis grower who has a lot of desires when growing a marijuana, then autoflowering cannabis plants is not for you. But if you are a type of grower who only wants to get an experience because you are curious about the characteristic of autoflowering, then go for it and make sure that you will make the most out of it. So whatever is your choice, always ensure that you will never regret your decision to avoid blaming other people. Happy growing and good luck!
